Year 6 Lightning Ridge Excursion

As part of our Civilisation and Phenomena project this semester, Year 6 will be travelling to Lightning Ridge for a week long excursion. This will take place in Week Three of Term Five and will be five days/four nights in length. Lightning Ridge Central School has generously provided accommodation for us in their hall during our stay. 

 

While on excursion, students will explore a very unique micro-civilisation to make comparisons between known civilisations, past and present, to inform their future designs. A focus will be on art and architecture, exploring the sustainable building designs and resources utilised to construct various buildings and monuments. This will support the construction phase of our sustainable Lismore build. Students will also continue their exploration of Earth and geology through the rich history of opal mining and the fossil trail in the area. 

 

There are admission costs associated with some of the activities we will be completing, this will be invoiced to your account. Students will also participate in fundraising activities to support the other costs this excursion will incur. If you require financial assistance for this excursion, please contact the school office.

I will be holding an information evening about this excursion at 5pm on the 29th of August at SCU. This presentation can be digitally shared if you are unable to attend. Alternatively, please do not hesitate to contact me beforehand. 

I am really looking forward to providing this experience to the class, showing them an incredible part of NSW, building on our Project Based Learning application and connecting as a group.

I consent to my child attending the school excursion from Monday the 25th of September until Friday the 29th of September.
I give permission for my child to:
I have completed my child's medical form for 2023 of which the details including telephone and medical details have not changed.
I authorise the teacher-in-charge of the excursion to consent, where it is impractical to communicate with me, to my child receiving dental, medical and surgical treatment as may be deemed necessary including blood transfusions and surgery and understand that the school is not responsible for any act of any health practitioner.
I consent to the teacher-in-charge administering motion sickness tablets (provided by me) to my son/daughter whilst on the excursion. (Please tick only if motion sickness tablets are necessary)
I consent to the teacher-in-charge administering paracetamol to my child if necessary.
If understand that if my child brings or consumes drugs, alcohol, vapes or cigarettes or otherwise exhibits behaviour that endangers themselves or others, I will bear the full cost of returning home for my child and any adult supervisor that may be required to ensure the safety of my child during that transport.
